Reputation
A counter of what people think of each other is only worth its defences.
What it does
Levels measure how much somebody talks. Reputation measures whether the rest of the server was glad they did.
Members thank each other with /rep, and the reason is kept: "+7" says nothing, "+7, three of them for holding the help channel on a Sunday" says something.
What you can do
- A point given by one member to another, with the reason in their own words
- No self-reputation, and no bots on either side
- A wait between two gifts, so nobody hands out fifty in an hour
- A longer wait between the same two people — the lock that stops "you rep me, I rep you"
- A minimum time on the server before a member may give, so a fresh account cannot inflate a score
- Optional: the bot spots a thank-you and offers the point with a button

Leave the locks alone at first
The defaults are a day between gifts, a week between the same two people, and a week on the server before giving. They are deliberate, not placeholders.

Tell your members about /rep
With a member it gives a point, with nothing it shows their score, with top it ranks.

Turn on thanks detection if your server helps people
In a support server most thanks are typed, not commanded. The bot offers the point; it never awards it by itself.
Frequently asked questions
Why does reputation give no XP?
Because they measure different things. Levels count activity, reputation counts what the others thought of it — and a server wanting to reward one without the other could not, if the two were joined.
Somebody farmed points with a second account. What now?
The locks are what stop that: a week between the same two people makes the exchange pointless, and a minimum time on the server keeps a fresh account out. Raise both if it happened anyway.
Is there a public page for the ranking?
No, and deliberately. A ranking of activity is a showcase; a ranking of popularity displayed outside the server is an invitation to bother whoever is not on it.
