Command access

Not every command belongs to everybody.

What it does

A bot ships fifty-three commands, and each one arrives with a permission level decided once, for every server at once. Your moderators either become administrators, or they cannot purge a channel.

This module lets a server say who runs what: roles that may, roles that may not, channels where a command is allowed, and a switch to remove one entirely.

What you can do

  • A rule per command, on this server only
  • Roles allowed - they reach a command written for administrators
  • Roles barred - refused whatever else allows them
  • Channels where the command is accepted
  • A switch, to remove a command from the server
  • Untouched commands keep the level written into them

How to set it up

3 steps · about 3 minutes

  1. 1

    Find the command

The list is grouped by module: moderation commands together, levels together. Most servers only ever touch three or four.

  2. 2

    Name the roles

Naming roles replaces the command's own level. A moderator role reaches /purge without being made administrator - and an administrator who is not named no longer reaches it.

  3. 3

    Bar what must be barred

A barred role is refused whatever else allows it. It is read last, on purpose: a refusal another list can overturn is not a refusal.

Frequently asked questions

Can I grant a command the bot reserves for the server owner?

No. Those reconfigure the bot itself, and a server that granted them by mistake could not take the mistake back from inside Discord. They stay out of reach whatever you name.

Does this cover the ! prefix as well as slash commands?

Yes. Both go through the same check, so a rule cannot apply to one and not the other.

What about the commands I wrote myself?

Custom commands carry their own roles and channels, on their own page. This module is for the commands the bot ships with.
