Auto responses

The answer you keep typing, given once and for all.

What it does

Every server sees the same questions come back: where are the rules, when does the event start, why is that channel closed. The team answers by hand, and answers slightly differently each time.

An auto response hands that work to the bot. You write the reply once, you say which words trigger it, and the server answers itself from then on.

This module only ever answers. It can add a reaction and send a message; it can never take a right away, warn or sanction — that is AutoMod's job, and the two are kept apart on purpose.

What you can do

  • Five kinds of trigger: keyword, phrase, exact message, wildcard, attachment
  • Several wordings per rule, one drawn at random
  • Variables: member, server, channel
  • Emoji reactions on the message that triggered it
  • Allowed and blocked channels and roles
  • Cooldown per member and per server
  • Mentions muted by default, so no rule can wake the whole server
  • Optional deletion of the reply, or of the message that triggered it

How to set it up

4 steps · about 3 minutes

  1. 1

    Create the rule

Give it a name you will recognise in the list. That name is for you: members never see it.

  2. 2

    Choose the trigger

Keyword looks for the word on its own, phrase looks anywhere, exact message demands the whole message. Wildcard is for wordings with a hole in them.

  3. 3

    Write the wordings

Put several, one per line. The bot draws one at random, and the server stops sounding like a machine.

  4. 4

    Restrict and slow it down

Limit the rule to the channels where it makes sense and set a cooldown. Without one, a popular trigger becomes spam within minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from AutoMod?

AutoMod punishes: it deletes, warns and sanctions. This module only answers, and can take no right away.

Why does my reply notify nobody?

Mentions are muted by default. A rule fires on a word, so potentially dozens of times a day; untick the option if you really do want to notify.
