Custom commands

Your usual answers, in one command.

What it does

Every server repeats the same answers: the rules, the website link, how to report a bug. Typing them by hand wears the team down and produces uneven replies.

Custom commands turn those answers into shortcuts. A member types the command, the bot replies with exactly the intended text.

They can also act: grant a role, send a direct message, delete the triggering message.

What you can do

  • Trigger by prefix, by slash command or by keyword
  • Reply in text, embed or file
  • Actions: grant or remove a role, send privately
  • Variables: author, target, arguments, server
  • Permissions per role and per channel
  • Cooldown per member, per channel or global
  • Random replies from a list
  • Usage counter

How to set it up

4 steps · about 3 minutes

  1. 1

    Create the command

Choose its name and the trigger mode. Slash commands are more discoverable than a prefix.

  2. 2

    Write the reply

Plain text or embed. Variables let you personalise based on who called the command.

  3. 3

    Restrict where needed

Some commands only make sense for the team, or in a specific channel.

  4. 4

    Add a cooldown

Without one, a fun command becomes a spam tool within minutes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between prefix and slash command?

A slash command appears in Discord's menu and is discovered on its own. A prefix is shorter to type but invisible.

Can the bot reply privately?

Yes, the reply can go as a direct message rather than into the channel.
