Counting

A channel where a hundred people agree on what comes next.

What it does

Counting is the cheapest thing a server can run, and one of the few a hundred strangers will do together. The rule fits on one line: say the next number, and never twice in a row.

What makes it last is not the rule but what happens when somebody breaks it. A count of four thousand lost to a typo is a server that never counts again — so mistakes are absorbed by saves you grant, rather than punished on the spot.

What you can do

  • One channel, one running count, and nobody counts twice in a row
  • Saves that absorb a mistake instead of ending the run
  • The record, the running total and who has counted the most
  • Arithmetic accepted: `40+2` counts as 42
  • A strict mode where anything that is not a number breaks the count
  • A role given to whoever breaks it, taken back after the minutes you choose

How to set it up

3 steps · about 3 minutes

  1. 1

    Pick the channel

One channel, and nothing else happens in it. A count that shares its channel with the conversation dies the day somebody types “lol” at three thousand.

  2. 2

    Decide how strict you are

With arithmetic on, the second thousand becomes interesting. With numbers-only, a single “nice one” costs the whole run — leave it off until your server asks for it.

  3. 3

Set what happens to whoever breaks it

A role for a few minutes is enough. In practice it is worn proudly, which is the point: this is a game, and the punishment is a joke everybody is in on.

Frequently asked questions

Where do saves come from?

You grant them from this page. They are a reserve the server spends, not an automatism: a save that regenerates on its own turns the rule back into a suggestion.

Somebody deleted their number. Does the count break?

No. The count lives in the bot, not in the channel's history. Deleting a message hides it from the channel and changes nothing else.

Can I fix the count by hand?

The current number, the record and the totals are read-only here, deliberately. A record typed in rather than reached is a leaderboard that means nothing.
